Accidental auto picks deliver massive Ohio jackpot

Lottery slip up turns into $291010 jackpot shock for Avon Lake driver

AVON LAKE, OH — A routine lottery purchase turned into a $291,010 jackpot after an Avon Lake man accidentally bought extra numbers and decided to keep them in play for the next drawing.

The winner had intended to purchase his usual Rolling Cash 5 numbers for seven consecutive days. Instead, he mistakenly played his regular birthday-based numbers along with six additional auto pick lines for a single drawing. Rather than void the ticket, he kept the numbers and played them again the following day.

When the numbers 1-14-20-35-37 were drawn Tuesday night, two of his auto pick lines matched all five numbers, making him the sole winner of the $291,000 Rolling Cash 5 jackpot. He also matched three numbers on another line for an additional $10 prize.

After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 26.75 percent, he will receive $213,164.83.

The winner said the unexpected windfall will allow him to quit driving for a rideshare service, pay off his home and eliminate debt. He also plans to use the money to spend more time with his wife and assist with her medical expenses.

Rolling Cash 5 drawings are held daily at approximately 7:05 p.m. The odds of matching all five numbers are 1 in 575,757.

The winning ticket was purchased at Get Go #3284, located at 1501 Travelers Pointe in Avon.

For one Avon Lake resident, a simple purchase error has now delivered a six-figure payout.
