Baltimore Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Yields Heroin, Crack Cocaine in Brooklyn Park

Anne Arundel County police say officers seized more than 200 suspected heroin capsules and approximately 80 grams of suspected crack cocaine during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Park.

BROOKLYN PARK, Md. — A Baltimore man was arrested after Anne Arundel County police discovered a large quantity of suspected narcotics during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Park.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, officers initiated a traffic stop at approximately 2:30 p.m. on June 17 after observing a traffic violation involving a Chevrolet Impala near the intersection of Ritchie Highway and Townsend Avenue.

During the stop, police obtained consent to search the vehicle.

Large quantity of suspected drugs seized

Investigators said the search led to the discovery of 113 red-and-white gel capsules containing suspected heroin and an additional 100 off-white gel capsules of suspected heroin.

Officers also recovered approximately 80 grams of suspected crack cocaine from inside the vehicle.

In addition to the suspected narcotics, police seized U.S. currency believed to be connected to the investigation.

Driver taken into custody

The driver, identified as 62-year-old Derle Daron Allen of Baltimore, was arrested at the scene.

Police said Allen was charged in connection with the seized drugs, though specific charges were not immediately released in the department’s announcement.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Ongoing enforcement efforts

The arrest is part of continuing efforts by Anne Arundel County police to target the distribution of illegal narcotics throughout the county.

Authorities routinely conduct traffic enforcement and drug interdiction operations along major transportation corridors, including the Ritchie Highway corridor through northern Anne Arundel County.
