The vice president of the Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education resigned after his arrest on child-related charges, while the nonprofit organization he founded voted to dissolve and cancel its upcoming Pride festival.
CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education moved to remove its vice president after learning he had been arrested on allegations involving sexually explicit communications with a child.
According to a statement released by the Board of Education, members were notified by a news outlet at approximately 10 a.m. on June 19 that Vice President Travis Barr Longo had been arrested.
The board convened an emergency meeting later that afternoon with Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio and legal counsel specializing in New York education law to determine how to proceed.
Board demanded immediate resignation
Board members said they unanimously agreed to pursue Longo’s resignation as the quickest way to remove him from office.
In a public statement, the board said its attorney informed Longo that if he did not resign by noon on June 22, members would begin formal removal proceedings under New York State Education Law.
“The Board of Education has been shocked, deeply saddened, and outraged by these serious allegations,” the board wrote.
“We extend our support and assistance to all children and families involved.”
The board noted that elected school board members cannot be removed immediately without following state-mandated procedures.
Four criminal charges filed
Authorities charged Longo with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to information released by law enforcement, investigators allege Longo engaged in a pattern of sexually explicit communications with a child under the age of 12.
State police have indicated the investigation remains active and believe there may be additional victims or witnesses.
Longo was arraigned in Madison County CAP Court and later released pending further court proceedings.
Cazenovia Pride votes to dissolve
Longo was also the founder of Cazenovia Pride Inc., a nonprofit organization that hosted annual Pride events in the community.
Following news of his arrest, the organization’s board of directors held an emergency meeting and voted to dissolve the nonprofit entirely.
The board also canceled the 2026 Cazenovia Pride Festival, which had been scheduled to take place at the Lorenzo State Historic Site.
Police seek additional information
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information related to the case to contact the New York State Police at 315-366-6000 and reference case number NY2600762245.
The school board emphasized that student safety remains its highest priority.
“Our response reflects the Board of Education’s deep and unwavering commitment to every child’s safety and well-being,” the board said.
“We stand strong in condemning these alleged actions, while also acknowledging that it is the responsibility of the judicial system to determine guilt or innocence.”
