Baltimore woman wins $50,000 on unexpected lottery ticket buy

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Baltimore woman who usually limits her lottery play to select nights took a chance on an “off day” and walked away with a $50,000 Pick 5 top prize, Maryland Lottery officials announced.

The West Baltimore resident was at home when she checked the winning numbers for the Oct. 24 drawing on her phone. Seeing her chosen combination—15231—match the evening results left her in disbelief.

“I couldn’t believe it. I have never won that amount before,” she said, noting that her previous highest prize was $800.

She purchased the $1 straight ticket at Crazy Mart on Pennsylvania Avenue while making another purchase. The store will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The woman, an educator, said she has no immediate plans for the prize money and will deposit it in the bank for now.
