GOLDSBORO, MD — A Caroline County man reeled in more than just fish this week after a routine stop at a gas station led to a $100,000 Maryland Lottery scratch-off prize — the biggest win of his life.
The winner, a construction worker from Goldsboro and an avid fisherman, purchased a $100,000 Cash scratch-off at the Centreville Citgo located at 426 South Commerce Street over the weekend. He selected the ticket based on a combination of strategy and suggestion — he often checks remaining prizes on the Lottery’s website and was encouraged by the store owner, who believed his shop still carried a potential top-prize winner.
The player bought the recommended ticket along with two others and returned home to scratch them. The first two tickets broke even, but the third revealed a top prize of $100,000.
He claimed the prize on October 14 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He plans to use the winnings for a fishing trip, a vacation for his mother, and to pay off debt.
The $100,000 Cash scratch-off launched in 2023 with 65 top prizes of $100,000 — 47 of which still remain. The game also offers hundreds of thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
Centreville Citgo will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
