Brooklyn woman choked and robbed in violent street mugging

Brooklyn, NY – A young woman was attacked and robbed at knifepoint in Sunset Park earlier this month, and police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 1 outside 500 53rd Street, within the confines of the 72nd Precinct, according to police.

A 20-year-old woman was walking when a man came up from behind, put her in a chokehold, and threatened her before snatching her bag, which contained cash. The suspect then fled westbound on 5th Avenue, authorities said.

The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, multi-colored shorts, and white sneakers. Police released surveillance images of the suspect and urged anyone with information to come forward.
