Police say the victim escaped the Ridge Road building without being hit
WASHINGTON, DC – A 45-year-old Southeast DC man has been arrested months after police say he confronted a person sleeping in an apartment building hallway, pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the victim while the person ran away.
The Metropolitan Police Department identified the suspect as Antwan Gales of Southeast DC.
Gales was arrested Aug. 13 on a DC Superior Court warrant and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon involving a gun.
Victim was sleeping in apartment hallway
The shooting occurred at approximately 3:19 a.m. Oct. 10, 2025, in the 400 block of Ridge Road SE.
According to MPD, the victim was sleeping in a hallway when the suspect came out of his apartment armed with a gun.
Police allege the suspect demanded that the victim leave the building.
The victim began fleeing, and the suspect fired multiple shots in the victim’s direction, according to investigators.
Despite the gunfire, the victim was not struck or otherwise reported injured.
Investigation leads to arrest
Officers responding to the shooting were unable to locate the suspect at the time.
Detectives continued investigating and eventually identified Gales as the alleged shooter, MPD said.
Authorities obtained an arrest warrant through DC Superior Court, and Gales was taken into custody Aug. 13.
Police announced the arrest Tuesday.
The charge is an accusation, and Gales is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
