Undercover probe leads to arrest in Brooklyn trafficking case

BROOKLYN, NY — A Bushwick man who recruited three teenage girls to engage in sexual conduct for money was sentenced to eight years in prison after a multi-agency investigation uncovered his involvement in a series of trafficking offenses carried out from his Halsey Street apartment.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced that 35-year-old Terrence Rogers, also known as Aura, received eight years in prison and five years of post-release supervision following his guilty plea to sex trafficking of a child. He will be required to register as a sex offender after release.

According to the investigation, between March 9 and April 12, 2024, Rogers recruited a 15-year-old girl who had been introduced by a classmate. Investigators determined that he used online advertisements and provided instructions to the victims on communicating with individuals responding to those postings.

Authorities reported that the teen later disclosed additional incidents involving threats and coercion, prompting a school social worker to notify law enforcement on June 13, 2024. The District Attorney’s Human Trafficking Unit and the NYPD then began an undercover investigation.

On July 3, 2024, an undercover officer responded to an online advertisement and was directed to Rogers’ apartment. Investigators entered shortly afterward and found Rogers with a 17-year-old inside the residence. He was taken into custody at the scene.

The investigation was carried out by members of the NYPD Human Trafficking Squad along with support staff from the District Attorney’s Office, including analysts and investigative personnel.

The case was prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Human Trafficking Unit under the supervision of the Special Victims Bureau.
