Volvo pulled over leads troopers to major drug seizure

Traffic stop in New Castle leads to felony drug charges for two Delaware men

NEW CASTLE, DE — An early-morning traffic stop on Memorial Drive resulted in the arrest of two men after a state trooper discovered suspected crack cocaine, heroin, and drug distribution materials inside their vehicle, according to the Delaware State Police.

The stop occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on February 9, when a trooper pulled over a Volvo XC90 for an equipment violation near North Dupont Highway. The driver, identified as 45-year-old William Comer Jr. of Wilmington, and the passenger, 59-year-old Darrell Maxion of Bear, were contacted during the stop.

Troopers learned Comer had drug paraphernalia in his possession. A search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the discovery of approximately 34 grams of suspected crack cocaine, nearly one gram of suspected heroin, two digital scales, and packaging materials.

Both men were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2.

Comer was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, conspiracy second degree, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a vehicle with improper window tinting. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $42,450 secured bond.

Maxion was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, conspiracy second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $40,700 secured bond.
