Dorchester stop ends with 17-year-old arrested and loaded Taurus handgun recovered police say

BOSTON, MA — A routine patrol near Dakota Street turned into a struggle inside a convenience store when Boston Police say officers recovered a loaded handgun from a 17-year-old’s waistband after noticing behavior that raised concerns the teen was armed.

Boston Police said the arrest happened Tuesday, January 20, at about 9:09 p.m. as officers assigned to District C-11 were patrolling near the intersection of Dakota Street and Washington Street. Officers reported seeing three individuals walking in the area who became focused on the marked cruiser as it approached, and police said officers recognized one of the individuals from a prior arrest.

Police said the group then entered a nearby convenience store and officers followed. Officers believed one of the individuals may have been a missing juvenile, according to the department. As officers approached, police said one individual repeatedly looked toward his waistband.

Fearing the person may be armed, officers conducted a pat frisk, police said. During the frisk, officers said they felt what they believed to be a firearm, and a struggle followed as the suspect resisted attempts to place him in handcuffs. Additional units responded, and all three individuals were detained.

Police said a firearm was recovered from one suspect’s waistband and was identified as a Taurus G2C with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds. After further investigation, police said the other two individuals were released at the scene.

The 17-year-old juvenile male was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on firearm-related charges, according to Boston Police. The listed charges include delinquent to wit carrying a firearm without a license, firearm possession large capacity, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and resisting arrest.
