COLUMBUS, OH – A late-night thief was caught on camera sneaking into a fenced commercial property and stealing copper piping from an HVAC unit, and now police are asking for help identifying the suspect.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on October 7 in the 600 block of Grandview Avenue. According to the Columbus Division of Police, the suspect breached a secured area of a business before removing copper piping from an exterior HVAC system.

Investigators released a surveillance image of the suspect and are seeking tips from the public. No additional details about the suspect’s identity or the value of the stolen materials were released.

Copper thefts have continued to rise across the country, with stolen piping and wiring often sold as scrap metal. HVAC systems are common targets due to the accessibility of copper components.
