Cumberland Child Kidnapper Who Violated Court Protection Order Arrested

August 19, 2024

CUMBERLAND, MD — On Sunday, August 18th, the Cumberland Police Department swiftly responded to a kidnapping incident on Virginia Avenue, culminating in the arrest of Joshua Michael Clark Sr.

Authorities were alerted that Clark, who was under a Final Protective Order that barred him from visiting the residence or contacting the protected individuals, including a loss of parental custody, violated the order.

He reportedly took the child and fled toward Boone Street.

Upon arrival, Cumberland officers, aided by directions from bystanders, initiated a search for Clark. The gravity of the situation prompted support from the Maryland State Police Aviation Unit Trooper 5 and the Mountain Maryland Search and Rescue team. Additional support came from the Maryland State Police Barrack C and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

The intensive search led to the sighting of Clark running through local yards and alleyways. A pursuit ensued, and officers were able to apprehend him on Grand Avenue. The child was safely returned to their mother.

Clark is now detained at the Allegany County Detention Center, awaiting his preliminary hearing. The Cumberland Police Department expressed deep appreciation for the quick response and efforts of all allied agencies involved in the resolution of this critical incident.
