Dinner run turns into $100K lottery win for Baltimore County man

A stop for cooking ingredients led to a top-prize Scratch-Off ticket worth $100,000, Maryland Lottery officials said

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Baltimore County man known for cooking meals for family and friends turned a routine trip to buy dinner ingredients into a $100,000 lottery payday after purchasing a Scratch-Off ticket during the visit.

The Pikesville resident claimed a $100,000 top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s Bingo X10 Scratch-Off game after buying the winning ticket at Dollar Plus Mart, located at 8011 Liberty Road in Windsor Mill.

According to lottery officials, the man purchased the $10 ticket while shopping for ingredients to prepare a meal for a friend. Known among relatives and friends for his cooking, including his stewed oxtails, he initially set the ticket aside and did not scratch it immediately.

Several days later, he revisited the ticket and realized he might have won a significant prize.

Wanting confirmation, he showed the ticket to his mother, who frequently plays Scratch-Off games. After reviewing the ticket, she confirmed that it was a top-prize winner worth $100,000.

The winner told lottery officials the timing was important as he had been working to pay off debts and recently moved in with his parents to reduce expenses.

An employee at Amazon, the winner said he plans to use the prize money to purchase a vehicle and pay bills.

He traveled by bus to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.

The retailer that sold the winning ticket, Dollar Plus Mart, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Bingo X10 launched in March with six top prizes of $100,000. Lottery officials said this marks the second top prize claimed, leaving four remaining in the game.
