MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – Jesse Meneses, a 38-year-old resident of Dover, New Jersey, has been sentenced to 40 years in state prison following his conviction for a series of severe crimes, including kidnapping and sexual assault. The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Stephen Taylor on June 28, 2024, and includes a mandatory minimum of approximately 32 years and 3 months without the possibility of early parole, in accordance with the No Early Release Act.
The case, led by Morris County Acting Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood and supported by local law enforcement agencies, concluded with Meneses being found guilty by a jury on February 2, 2024. His charges encompassed two counts of first-degree kidnapping, three counts each of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree sexual assault, as well as multiple other related offenses.
The charges stem from a September 5, 2021, incident where Meneses sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend inside his vehicle and subsequently transported her across multiple locations against her will. The victim managed to escape in Dover and promptly reported the crimes, leading to an extensive investigation by the Dover and Randolph Police Departments along with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes & Child Endangerment Unit.
Furthermore, between April and October 2022, Meneses was involved in efforts to tamper with a witness, as he communicated with family members in an attempt to persuade the victim to alter her testimony or withdraw her statements against him.
In addition to his prison sentence, Meneses is required to register under Megan’s Law and will be subjected to Parole Supervision for life, marking a significant legal resolution to a case that has deeply affected the community.
