Early Morning Blaze Displaces Three in Northwest D.C. Home

Washington, D.C. – A fire broke out in a two-story semi-detached home in Northwest D.C. early Friday morning, leaving three people without a home. Following fire reports, DC Fire and EMS were called to the scene on Madison Street Northwest, near 1st Street Northwest, just after 6:15 a.m..

Firefighters arrived to find flames on the first floor spreading to the residence’s second floor. The fire was substantially slowed by 6:50 a.m., with efforts continuing to extinguish residual fire pockets. By 7:19 a.m., the fire was declared officially under control.

All three occupants inside the home at the time of the fire could evacuate safely, thanks to the alarm from smoke alarms. There were no injuries reported. However, the fire has displaced the residents from their homes. The Red Cross of the National Capital and Greater Chesapeake Region is assisting those affected.
