FRIENDSVILLE, Md. — A structure fire caused significant damage to a single-story manufactured home in Friendsville on Monday afternoon, with investigators still working to determine the cause.

Fire crews responded to 846 First Avenue at approximately 3:15 p.m. after an occupant discovered smoke and flames in the kitchen. The Friendsville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, along with 45 firefighters, contained the fire within 30 minutes.

The home, owned by Donna Bowser and occupied by Amy Slider, sustained an estimated $90,000 in structural damage and $15,000 in content losses. A smoke alarm was present but did not activate.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters rescued one dog from under a bed. The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowner. Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Western Regional Office at (301) 766-3888.
