EASTON, Md. — A house fire broke out at a two-story, split-foyer, single-family home on Golton Drive, Talbot County, sometime between the evening of August 24 and the morning of August 25. The fire, which started on the exterior of the home, was discovered by a neighbor and had already been extinguished before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
The Easton Volunteer Fire Department was notified at approximately 12:48 p.m. on August 25 after the neighbor reported the damage. Despite the presence of a fire alarm and sprinkler system in the home, they did not activate, as the fire occurred in an unprotected area of the structure.
According to the investigation, the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials, which were left by an occupant of the residence. There were no injuries reported, and no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
The Easton Police Department and the Easton Volunteer Fire Department are continuing to monitor the situation, but the fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
