Shoplifting arrest and jury duty scam reported in Stafford

STAFFORD, Va. — A suspected shoplifting incident at a Stafford Walmart and a reported jury duty scam were among the cases handled Tuesday by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy J. A. Kotvas responded at approximately 1:09 p.m. to Walmart, located at 11 Village Parkway, for a shoplifting complaint. Loss Prevention personnel reported that a woman concealed merchandise and passed all points of sale without paying.

The woman was identified as Kimberly Beaty, 51, of Fredericksburg. She was issued a summons for shoplifting and released.

Later that evening, at approximately 7:06 p.m., Deputy W. E. Trainor responded to a fraud complaint on Puri Lane. The victim reported being contacted by individuals claiming to be with law enforcement who stated there was a federal arrest warrant related to missed jury duty.

The caller requested payment through Apple Pay to resolve the matter. No further details were released.
