Hackensack cops find no crime after Target TikTok scare

TikTok claim sparks investigation but cops say no crime

HACKENSACK, NJ — A viral TikTok video alleging a suspicious encounter at the Hackensack Target prompted a police investigation this week, but officials say there is no evidence of criminal activity tied to the claim.

The video, which gained attention on social media, reportedly described a suspicious person approaching a store patron. Despite the online attention, no formal complaint was filed with the Hackensack Police Department.

Still, detectives launched a proactive investigation into the alleged incident at the Target location. According to a department statement posted Wednesday, the Detective Bureau reviewed the matter and found no signs of wrongdoing or threat to the public.

Officials emphasized that community members should report concerning incidents directly to the department so they can be investigated in real-time, rather than relying solely on social media narratives.

Residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency, and to use the department’s non-emergency line at 201-646-7777 for all other concerns.
