High speed crash at I 95 ramp kills Brooklyn driver and leaves two critically hurt

Brooklyn driver killed after blowing red light at highway ramp

Bensalem Township, PA – A violent overnight collision at a busy highway interchange ended in flames and tragedy after a speeding car blew through a red light, went airborne, and crashed into two other vehicles, killing the driver and critically injuring two passengers.

The crash happened around midnight Tuesday at Street Road and the Interstate 95 interchange. Emergency crews arriving on scene found a silver 2013 Chevrolet Sonic fully engulfed in fire with occupants trapped inside.

Investigators said the driver of the Chevrolet was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional occupants were pulled from the burning car and rushed by Bensalem EMS to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where both remain in critical condition.

Police said the Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on Street Road at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop for a red traffic signal at the northbound I-95 ramp. The vehicle struck a 2017 Dodge Journey that was exiting I-95 northbound and turning left onto westbound Street Road with a green signal.

The force of the impact sent the Chevrolet airborne, causing it to cross the center median and slam into a 2015 Honda Accord that was stopped in the left lane of westbound Street Road. The Chevrolet came to rest in the roadway and caught fire. The entire crash was captured on township intersection cameras.

The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as 44-year-old Timur Khabelov of Brooklyn, New York. His next of kin has been notified. The injured passengers were identified as Farruh Homidov, 43, and Askar Narziev, 39, both of whom remain hospitalized in critical condition.

The drivers of the Dodge Journey and Honda Accord were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police said the possible involvement of drugs or alcohol has not been ruled out and is pending autopsy and toxicology results.
