Hudson County player wins big at local liquor store

Hudson County player wins $155K jackpot on $5 Emerald 5X ticket sold in Kearny

TRENTON, NJ – A $5 scratch-off ticket sold in Hudson County turned into a $155,000 payday for a lucky player in Kearny on Friday, making it one of the top wins in the newly launched Emerald 5X game.

The ticket, sold at Topshelf Liquor located at 613 Elm Street, was confirmed by the New Jersey Lottery as the second of only three top prizes in the Emerald 5X series. The game has been on the market for just weeks, and the odds of hitting one of the top jackpots remain slim.

The winning ticket was reported as sold on Friday and quickly validated as a top-prize winner, further fueling interest in the low-cost game across the state.

Since 1970, the New Jersey Lottery has returned nearly $34.7 billion to support statewide programs and services. Under a 2017 law, lottery revenues now help sustain the state’s public employee pension system through a dedicated 30-year agreement.

With just one top prize remaining, the Emerald 5X ticket is expected to draw heightened interest as players search for the last jackpot still in circulation.
