Jury Convicts Killer Who Shot Mother In Front of Her Children

July 27, 2024

Sacramento, CA — Mandiko Kwadzo has been convicted of first-degree murder by a jury, along with allegations of using a firearm in the murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The incident dates back to July 27, 2020, when West Sacramento police responded to reports of shots fired inside a residence. Subsequently, a tragic sequence of events unfolded leading to the discovery of Carliena Clayton, a mother of four, fatally shot inside her car, which was partially submerged in the Sacramento River at Cliff’s Marina. Witnesses and evidence at the scene implicated Kwadzo in the shooting.

The jury’s verdict was delivered on July 24, 2024. Kwadzo, who did not assist the victim or her children at the scene, was taken into custody. He faces a maximum sentence of 53 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 6, 2024, before the Honorable Kenneth Brody in Department 24.
