Lancaster Police Arrest Homeless Man As Suspect in Early Morning Shooting

LANCASTER, PA — On Saturday, Lancaster City Bureau of Police officers were dispatched to the first block of Conestoga St. at approximately 7:55 am, following reports of a gunshot being fired.

Although officers did not initially locate any suspects, the utilization of video footage from the Lancaster Safety Coalition enabled them to identify Doodley Charles, an 18-year-old homeless male, as the alleged shooter.

Charles was spotted by Officers Harry Valverde and Caitlyn Stallings around 12:15 pm in the area of the 600 block of E. Marion St.

Upon being approached by the officers, Charles fled on foot, leading to a coordinated response to establish a perimeter and prevent his escape. He was subsequently found hiding behind an exterior basement door and was safely taken into custody.

A loaded, polymer 80 “ghost gun” was discovered nearby. Charles has been charged with multiple weapons-related offenses and several counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person for firing into an occupied residence on Conestoga St.
