CONCORD – U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young has announced the indictment of five men involved in a significant drug trafficking organization, accused of conspiring to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. The operation, which spanned from October 13, 2023, to March 12, 2024, has led to the arrest of four defendants, while one remains at large.
The individuals charged in this case are Jose Luis Guerrero Nunez and Carlos Alejandro Chevalier Santos, both currently held in federal custody; Eddy Mendez Carmona, detained on unrelated charges; Juan Carlos De Los Santos Romero, who is still a fugitive; and Luis Guerrero Cabral, who has been released.
Each defendant faces charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, with three also charged with one count of distribution of controlled substances. The statutory penalties for these crimes include up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years of supervised release, and fines reaching up to $1,000,000.
Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge, taking into consideration the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes. The concerted effort by law enforcement agencies underscores the commitment to combating drug trafficking and its detrimental effects on communities.
