The burglary occurred overnight on April 4 at the Shell gas station located at 3001 New Castle Avenue. Troopers were dispatched to the scene around 6:58 a.m. after employees discovered multiple roof punctures and significant water damage caused by heavy overnight rainfall.

Investigators say surveillance footage revealed that around 12:33 a.m., a masked male cut multiple holes in the roof, climbed into the building, and stole over $6,000 worth of tobacco products before fleeing the scene on foot.

Suspect found at local motel

Following investigative efforts, troopers identified 59-year-old David Ramos as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and on April 6, troopers located him at a motel in New Castle, where he was taken into custody without incident.

A search of Ramos’ motel room reportedly uncovered several of the stolen tobacco products.

Facing burglary and theft charges

Ramos was transported to Troop 2, charged with burglary and related offenses, and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $16,000 cash bond.

A rainy rooftop heist ended with a motel arrest and stolen tobacco stash recovered.
