October 17, 2025

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 27-year-old man is dead after being shot Friday morning inside the SEPTA station at 15th and Market Streets, prompting a homicide investigation.

Police were called to the underground concourse around 7:25 a.m. after reports of a person armed with a gun.

Responding officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and immediately transported him to Jefferson Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m., according to authorities.

Suspect surrendered to police

Investigators said another 27-year-old man later turned himself in to the 16th District, bringing with him the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting. Detectives have not disclosed the relationship between the two men or what led to the deadly confrontation.

Motive still unclear

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit. Officials have not released the names of those involved pending family notification.

Police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to commuters and that transit service at the busy Center City hub was temporarily disrupted but has since resumed normal operations.

Authorities say more details will be released as the investigation develops.
