Maryland Man Held Mother, Brother at Gunpoint During Two-Hour Hostage Incident

BALTIMORE, MD – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal police shooting in the Fairland area of Montgomery County. The incident, which occurred early Thursday morning, involved Montgomery County Police responding to a domestic dispute.

At about 11:40 PM on Tuesday, officers were called to a home on the 3300 block of Hampton Point Drive. The caller, a resident, reported their brother was assaulting their mother and had fired a gun.

Upon arrival, officers heard more gunshots from inside the house, leading them to establish a perimeter and declare a hostage situation.

Negotiations with the armed man continued into the early hours of Wednesday.

Around 2:05 AM, SWAT officers entered the home and, after issuing commands, one officer fired multiple shots, striking the man. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he was later pronounced dead at a hospital. A handgun was found near the deceased.

The man’s mother received treatment at a local hospital and was released. No officers were injured during the incident. The IID plans to release the names of the deceased and the officer involved within two business days, unless concerns arise regarding officer safety.
