Maryland man’s gas station stop turns into $5M lottery fortune

Germantown man wins $5 million on $50 scratch-off at local gas station

Germantown, MD — A Montgomery County man is now $5 million richer after a $50 Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket bought at a Germantown gas station revealed a top prize win.

The winning ticket, part of the $5,000,000 Fortune game, was purchased on Sunday at the Town Center Sunoco located at 19738 Germantown Road. The man, a retired federal employee and frequent Lottery player, picked up the high-priced scratch-off after seeking out a location known to carry the game.

After scratching the ticket inside his car, the winner realized he had matched a number tied to the $5 million prize. He reviewed the ticket multiple times before reaching out to family members to confirm what he was seeing. He later visited Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Monday to claim the prize.

The $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off launched in February with five top prizes. Following this latest win, only one top prize remains unclaimed. In addition to the grand prize, the game still has five $100,000 and seven $50,000 prizes available.

The winner, who did not disclose his name publicly, said the money will go toward supporting his family, including funding his children’s education. The Sunoco station that sold the winning ticket will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
