Maryland mom dances in kitchen after family birthday numbers hit lottery jackpot

A Calvert County mother says the surprise lottery win could fund a summer getaway with her kids

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Calvert County mother of four broke into a kitchen dance celebration with her oldest daughter after discovering a Pick 5 ticket tied to a family birthdate had just delivered a $25K Maryland Lottery payday.

The longtime Maryland Lottery player claimed the prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Baltimore after winning the May 18 midday Pick 5 drawing.

The winner, who uses the nickname “Ragdolls,” said she chose the winning numbers based on a family member’s birthdate.

Lottery officials said the mother purchased the winning ticket at the Giant grocery store located at 655 Solomon’s Island Road North in Prince Frederick.

The winner joked that the prize money would cover “two tanks of gas and groceries for a month,” but added she is excited about what the money will mean for her family.

“I’m glad to have it,” she told Maryland Lottery officials.

According to the winner, the jackpot could help fund a summer vacation for her and her children.

Lottery officials said the Calvert County resident is a regular Maryland Lottery player.

The winning Pick 5 ticket matched all five numbers in the May 18 midday drawing to secure the $25,000 prize.
