Maryland woman arrested for attempted murder and carjacking in chevy chase

CHEVY CHASE, Md. — A 20-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted murder and carjacking that left a man seriously injured in Chevy Chase last month, Montgomery County police announced Thursday.

Roniyah Thomas, of District Heights, was taken into custody at her residence on March 13 after investigators identified her as the suspect in the February 4 shooting near South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza.

Officers responded to the scene around 7:42 p.m. and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Police applied a tourniquet before the victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities said the victim was standing outside his 2023 Subaru when an armed suspect approached and demanded his car keys. When the victim resisted, the suspect shot him before fleeing the scene.

Following an investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for Thomas’s arrest on March 10. She has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and attempted carjacking.

Thomas was booked at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
