Medical worker hits $50K after hanging up mid phone call

Lucky coin scratch turns Baltimore medical worker into $50000 MONOPOLY winner

BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore medical worker says a silver coin he’s carried for two years helped deliver a $50,000 MONOPOLY scratch-off win that left him unable to sleep after realizing what he had uncovered.

The East Baltimore resident claimed his prize Wednesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters after scratching a $30 MONOPOLY X200 ticket while on the phone with a friend.

He said he initially noticed what appeared to be a winning symbol while holding the ticket sideways. He quickly ended the call and went into a quiet room to finish scratching the ticket.

Although he did not match any of the winning numbers, the ticket revealed three multiplier symbols, which are automatic wins. The multipliers included 50X on $200, 200X on $100 and 100X on $200, totaling $50,000.

Before confirming the total prize, he attempted to rest but said he was unable to sleep as he kept thinking about the numbers.

The winner said he has experienced prior luck playing scratch-off games and credits a silver coin given to him by a lottery retailer about two years ago. He said he has used the coin on every scratch-off since receiving it.

He plans to use the $50,000 prize to pay off bills.

The winning ticket was purchased at Towson’s Quick Mart, 8604 Loch Raven Boulevard in Baltimore County.

The $30 MONOPOLY X200 scratch-off launched in November and features four $2 million top prizes and six $50,000 second-tier prizes. Two $2 million prizes and four $50,000 prizes remain unclaimed, along with additional prizes ranging from $30 to $10,000.

For one Baltimore man, a quiet moment with a scratch-off and a silver coin turned into a $50,000 payout.
