Morning coffee stop leads DC man to $50K lottery win

Coffee run and girlfriend’s call land DC man $50K Holiday Raffle prize

Rockville, MD – A Washington, DC maintenance worker on his morning coffee run picked up more than just caffeine after a nudge from his girlfriend led him to a $50,000 Holiday Raffle win.

The man, who asked to go by the alias “I’ll Be Back” — quoting Arnold Schwarzenegger’s famous line — claimed the first Early Bird prize in Maryland Lottery’s new Holiday Raffle game after buying the $20 ticket during a routine stop at the 7-Eleven on Gaither Road in Rockville.

The winning moment began on November 13 when his girlfriend reminded him over the phone to grab a Holiday Raffle ticket along with his daily coffee. The couple later checked the raffle numbers drawn on November 24 and realized the ticket was a $50,000 winner. He claimed the prize the next day.

The winner plans to use the money to pay off his car loan and is considering a golf trip to the Pinehurst resort in North Carolina. He already has one big win under his belt — a previous $25,000 DC Lottery prize — and said he’s now turning his attention to larger jackpots like Powerball, Mega Millions, and Cash4Life.

The Holiday Raffle game, launched November 3, will hold two more Early Bird drawings worth $50,000 each on December 8 and December 22. A final drawing on January 2 will award one $1 million top prize, ten $100,000 prizes, and thousands of smaller prizes.

Though “I’ll Be Back” is no longer eligible for the remaining Early Bird prizes, his winning ticket is still in play for the grand prize drawing. Only 325,000 tickets will be sold, and sales continue through January 1 or until sold out.
