Neighborhood on alert after white van report spreads online

White van scare sparks police probe in Middletown neighborhood

Middletown, DE — A report of a white van approaching a child in a residential neighborhood has prompted an investigation, though police say there is no confirmed evidence of an attempted abduction.

The Middletown Police Department said it is reviewing information tied to a social media post involving an incident in the Middletown Village area on Wednesday between 12:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Investigators said, at this time, there is no corroborating information to support that an abduction attempt occurred.

Police are asking residents in the area to check exterior surveillance cameras for any footage that may show a white or light-colored work van, possibly with rust, during the time frame in question.

Authorities said the investigation remains active as they work to determine what occurred.

Anyone with information or video footage is urged to contact the Middletown Police Department.
