New Jersey Fugitive Wanted for Murder Captured at California Border Crossing

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ – David Morales-Olmedo, 28, wanted in connection with a 2021 homicide in Cumberland County, New Jersey, has been captured by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

On February 8, 2024, Morales-Olmedo was apprehended at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California as he sought entry into the United States from Mexico. Officers flagged him as a wanted individual during the admission process. Following confirmation of his identity, Morales-Olmedo was detained and is currently held at the San Diego County Central Jail, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office had been seeking Morales-Olmedo since June 4, 2021, after issuing an arrest warrant for homicide and related weapons offenses.

Described as armed and dangerous, authorities had advised against public attempts to approach him, urging contact with the Bridgeton Police for any sightings or information regarding his whereabouts.

The arrest stems from the investigation into the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Mario Soriano, which occurred on the night of the incident in Bridgeton.

Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of N. Pearl St., finding a crime scene but learning Soriano had already been taken to Inspira Hospital by acquaintances. Soriano succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
