Monroe Township, NJ – A 38-year-old man has died and two others were hospitalized after a Hyundai Santa Fe crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a fatal multi-vehicle crash late Sunday night on County Route 655 (Fries Mill Road), police said.
The crash happened around 10:04 p.m. on August 9, near milepost 5.85 between Stanger Avenue and Arlington Drive. Investigators say the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, traveling southbound, veered across the double yellow line into the northbound lane. The Hyundai struck a 2005 Toyota RAV4, causing the SUV to spin before coming to rest on the southbound shoulder about 100 feet from impact.
The Hyundai then continued south in the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2005 Ford F-150.
The Hyundai’s driver was rushed to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital and later transferred to Jefferson University Hospital Trauma Center in Philadelphia, where he died from his injuries early Monday morning.
The Toyota’s driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital. A passenger in the Toyota was evaluated at the scene and released. The Ford F-150’s driver sustained lower body injuries and was transported to Cooper Trauma Center for treatment.
Monroe Township Police are investigating the cause of the crash, with assistance from multiple emergency response agencies.
