PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 33-year-old man was critically injured early Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while lying in the roadway on the 2600 block of North Broad Street, police said.
The crash occurred around 12:34 a.m. amid dark and rainy conditions that limited visibility.
The driver of a black Nissan Rogue stopped immediately after the collision, called 911, and cooperated with investigators.

Pedestrian struck during early-morning storm
According to preliminary findings, the pedestrian, who appeared to be under the influence, had been wandering in the area before entering the roadway and lying down in the middle of Broad Street. The driver, traveling northbound, was unable to see the man due to poor lighting and rain.
Philadelphia Fire Department medics responded and transported the victim to Temple University Hospital, where he was treated for a head injury, multiple rib fractures, and internal bleeding. He remains in critical condition.
Investigation continues
The Philadelphia Police Crash Investigation Division is leading the ongoing probe into the incident. Authorities have not released the names of those involved and said no charges have been filed as of Saturday morning.
Police reminded motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution during nighttime and wet-weather conditions.
