Princeton Police Warn of New Scam Impersonating Law Enforcement

PRINCETON, NJ — Scammers are impersonating members of the Princeton Police Department to solicit personal information over the phone, according to recent reports.

The police department issued an alert stating that scammers research local law enforcement names and can even spoof the department’s phone number to make the call appear legitimate. The fraudulent callers typically state that “there is an active investigation” before asking for personal information.

Princeton Police emphasized that legitimate law enforcement will never call to request personal details. Residents are advised to hang up and contact the actual police department if they suspect a scam.
