Queens liquor store ticket delivers big win

Queens liquor store sells $16K winning TAKE 5 ticket on New Year’s Day

CORONA, NY — A lucky lottery player kicked off the new year with a $16,894 win after purchasing a top-prize TAKE 5 ticket from a liquor store in the heart of Corona for the January 1 midday drawing.

The winning ticket was sold at Corona Discount Wine & Liquor, located at 104-05 Corona Avenue, according to the New York Lottery. It matched all five numbers drawn, securing the day’s top prize in the midday edition of the TAKE 5 game.

TAKE 5 drawings take place twice daily — once at 2:30 p.m. and again at 10:30 p.m. — with players selecting five numbers from a pool of one through 39. Payouts vary depending on the number of tickets sold and how many winners match all five numbers.

The identity of the prize winner has not yet been disclosed. Winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize at an official New York Lottery location.

The New York Lottery continues to lead North America in lottery-generated revenue, contributing $3.6 billion in the last fiscal year to support public education throughout the state.
