Rain-soaked Friday gives way to sunny, mild weekend across New Jersey

New Jersey’s stormy Friday will clear just in time for a picture-perfect weekend.

NEWARK, N.J. — A drenching end to the workweek in New Jersey will give way to clear skies and comfortable temperatures this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms swept across the region Friday with rainfall totals expected to range between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch by evening. Temperatures hovered near 64 degrees as winds shifted from the east to the north at around 10 mph.

Rain is expected to taper off overnight, with a chance of lingering showers until around 5 a.m. Saturday. Skies will begin to clear early Saturday morning, and temperatures will dip to the upper 40s before sunrise.

The weekend forecast marks a sharp turn from the gray, wet weather. Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 69, though gusty northwest winds up to 30 mph may add a brisk feel to the day.

By Sunday, conditions will fully settle into a mild spring pattern. Forecasts show sunny skies, highs in the mid-70s, and lighter winds from the northwest between 5 and 10 mph.
