Retired trucker hits $50K jackpot on Ohio scratch-off

Retired trucker scratches off $50K jackpot at Ravenna gas station

RAVENNA, OH — A retired truck driver has picked up a $50,000 payday after purchasing a $30 Money Maker scratch-off ticket at a local gas station — continuing what he calls a family tradition of winning big.

Ed, a Ravenna resident, claimed the five-figure prize after buying the lucky ticket from GetGo #3327 at 1363 East Main Street. His win, announced Wednesday, makes him the latest to cash in on the Ohio Lottery’s Money Maker game, which offers a top prize of $2 million.

After state and federal taxes totaling 27.125%, Ed will take home $36,437.50. He says he plans to enjoy his retirement with the extra cash and pay off a few bills along the way. Scratch-offs have long been a personal hobby, and he still hopes to one day appear on the Ohio Lottery’s television game show, Cash Explosion.

According to the Ohio Lottery, the Money Maker scratch-off guarantees a minimum win of $40, with four of its top $2 million prizes still unclaimed as of October 22. The lottery has contributed over $34 billion to education programs statewide since its founding in 1974.
