Sheriff’s deputy arrested after domestic violence incident
Muncie, IN A Blackford County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested following a domestic violence incident earlier this week. Tyler Wood, 27, faces charges including aggravated battery, domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and strangulation.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at a residence on North Allison Road. Law enforcement responded to a domestic violence call after a woman reported being injured.
Upon arrival, officers found the woman bleeding from her forehead. A male voice was reportedly heard on the 911 call stating, “You’re bleeding all over the apartment.”
Wood was taken into custody while the woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of multiple injuries, including trauma to her head, arms, and legs from punches and bites.
According to law enforcement, after the violence, Wood allegedly made threats against the woman, indicating intentions to harm her. Following these threats, she called for emergency assistance.
Blackford County Sheriff James Heflin released a statement addressing the incident. He confirmed an internal administrative investigation was opened immediately after the arrest.
Wood has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending further proceedings. The sheriff emphasized that allegations of violence are taken seriously and subjected to thorough investigation.
Limited public disclosure is possible due to the active criminal case. The office is conducting both legal and administrative processes regarding Wood’s conduct.
Currently, Wood is being held in the Delaware County Jail without bond. As of this writing, court records show only the aggravated battery charge filed against him.
Prosecutors have requested until January 7 to file additional charges. The defendant is scheduled for a court appearance on the same day regarding a firearm seizure hearing.
