Southern Maryland man stunned after Powerball ticket delivers life-changing win

Frequent lottery player says trusted number strategy finally paid off with major Maryland jackpot prize

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Southern Maryland man says his longtime dedication to playing Powerball and other jackpot games finally paid off after a lucky ticket delivered what he called a “life-changing” win.

The Calvert County resident claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize from the May 6 drawing during a visit to Maryland Lottery headquarters on May 15.

The North Beach man, who works in the legal profession, told lottery officials he regularly plays Powerball, Mega Millions and Multi-Match during every drawing.

“I also play the daily games sometimes if a specific number combination sticks in my head,” the winner said.

The player said he keeps track of winning numbers from previous drawings and uses them to help choose future number combinations.

After scanning his winning ticket using the Maryland Lottery app, the man initially believed the result had to be a mistake.

“I looked at it again and again, thinking, ‘This can’t be right,’” he told lottery officials. “There were more zeroes than I’m used to seeing.”

The winner later drove to a lottery retailer to confirm the ticket was authentic.

Lottery officials confirmed the ticket was indeed a third-tier Powerball winner worth $50,000.

The lucky ticket was sold at the Fastop store located at 8834 Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach.

The winner has not publicly revealed how he plans to spend the prize money.
