Spring break crowds met with curfew enforcement in DC hotspot

Curfew crackdown keeps order in Navy Yard as youth gatherings draw police presence

WASHINGTON, DC – A weekend juvenile curfew in the Navy Yard brought large crowds of young people under increased police oversight, with officers reporting dispersals, minor violations, and no major crimes during the three-night enforcement effort.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the temporary Juvenile Curfew Zone was in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as part of a broader plan to manage youth activity during spring break.

Police maintained a visible presence in Navy Yard and other parts of the city where prior disorderly activity had been reported. The deployment included support for the DC Department of Parks and Recreation’s Teen Spring Jam II, which drew hundreds of attendees on Friday and Saturday without incident.

During curfew hours, officers worked to disperse groups of juveniles in the designated zone. On Saturday night, some groups engaged in brief disorderly behavior before dispersing. No criminal offenses or arrests were reported in connection with that activity.

Metro Transit Police made four arrests at the Waterfront Metro Station during the weekend, though those incidents occurred outside the designated curfew zone.

On Sunday night, officers recorded six curfew violations within the Navy Yard area. No criminal offenses were reported.

Officials said a citywide curfew for individuals under 18 remains in effect nightly from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Police urged parents and guardians to remain aware of their children’s whereabouts during spring break.

The department said it will continue increased patrols throughout the period.
