WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man wanted in connection with the assault of a Metropolitan Police Department officer in Southeast has turned himself in, completing a series of arrests stemming from the incident.
On March 11 at approximately 3:59 p.m., members of the Seventh District’s Special Missions Unit confronted a man consuming marijuana in public in the 2600 block of Birney Place SE. As officers attempted to take him into custody, multiple suspects attacked MPD members. The altercation was recorded and shared on social media.
Four suspects were arrested at the scene, and police later released images of a fifth individual wanted in connection with the attack.
On March 17, 44-year-old Ronald James Butler of Southeast D.C. surrendered at an MPD district station. He was arrested on a felony assault charge pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant.
