WASHINGTON, DC – The Metropolitan Police Department has announced the extradition of 21-year-old William Walker from Upper Marlboro, MD, who has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). The charge stems from an incident on Monday where an off-duty MPD captain was shot at while driving in Northwest Washington.

The event unfolded on May 20 around 12:09 p.m. in the 5800 block of 7th Street, NW, when the off-duty officer encountered a vehicle driving erratically. The suspect exited the vehicle and opened fire on the captain’s car. The officer, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, managed to drive himself to the Fourth District Station and was later hospitalized.

Utilizing partial license plate information provided by the injured captain, MPD’s Real Time Crime Center quickly located the suspect’s vehicle. A pursuit ensued involving MPD’s Air Support Unit and officers from the Fifth District, ending in Landover, Maryland, where the vehicle crashed and two suspects were apprehended by Prince George’s County Police.

The second suspect, a 21-year-old male from Northwest, D.C., remains in custody in Prince George’s County, MD, awaiting extradition.

MPD has expressed gratitude to the Prince George’s County Police Department, ATF, FBI, and other regional law enforcement agencies for their support in this ongoing investigation.
