MEDINA, OH – As the global pandemic winds down and the federal eviction moratorium expires, a new crisis is blossoming, the eviction pandemic.
On Wednesday, a man who barricaded himself in his home faced off with police. It turns out that man was served by an eviction notice. As the situation between local deputies and the man escalated, others in the home were evacuated and the Medina County SWAT team was called in.
“Law enforcement has ended a standoff on Lafayette Road sparked by an eviction notice using non-lethal measures. One man was taken to the hospital,” the Medina County Sheriff’s Office said. “Others in the home have been removed and are at a local hotel. More details to come later.”
Medina County law enforcement was involved in a standoff situation with a man facing eviction on Lafayette Road, who barricaded himself inside the rental home Wednesday morning. Medina County Sheriff Terry Grice said deputies went to 290 Lafayette Road to serve the eviction notice.
The male renter inside the home refused to talk to deputies, threatened the deputies, and went back inside the home. Grice said the man, who has not been identified, has made threats to police in the past. Deputies backed away from the home, called for back up and closed several streets in the area as a precaution.
