Syracuse Police Seize Six Illegally Operated ATVs in Continued Crackdown

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Police Department confiscated six illegally operated all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) as part of an ongoing enforcement effort to remove unauthorized vehicles from city streets and parks. The seizures took place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, as part of the department’s ATV Enforcement Detail.

Among the ATVs seized was a four-wheeler that had been previously reported stolen. Additionally, two of the confiscated vehicles were found with their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) filed off, complicating efforts to trace their origins.

The Syracuse Police Department emphasized its zero-tolerance policy regarding the illegal operation of ATVs within city limits. Offenders caught operating these vehicles on city streets or in parks face arrest and are charged with local law violations. First-time violators may incur a $500 fine, along with potential traffic citations, towing and impound fees, and significant redemption costs.

This enforcement detail is set to continue as the summer season draws to a close, with the department reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safety and order. The Syracuse Police Department expressed gratitude to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office for their ongoing support and the use of the Air One helicopter during these operations.
