Ocean City stolen vehicle chase ends in woods arrest as multi-agency manhunt nets 3 suspects
OCEAN CITY, Md. — A stolen vehicle case that began with a failed traffic stop in Ocean City escalated into a multi-agency overnight manhunt, ending with three suspects—including a 17-year-old with an out-of-state warrant—taken into custody after fleeing into wooded areas in Worcester County, police said.
The incident began at approximately 1:15 a.m. on May 30, 2026, when Ocean City Police attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Baltimore Avenue, according to officials. The driver refused to stop and fled, prompting a second attempted stop on Philadelphia Avenue near 31st Street, where officers again lost contact as the vehicle accelerated away.
Police said the vehicle continued north on Coastal Highway, running multiple red lights at high speed before officers ended pursuit for safety reasons.
Stop sticks were deployed at Coastal Highway and Route 90, puncturing the vehicle’s tires, but the driver continued across the bridge into Worcester County. Deputies with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office then attempted additional stops as the vehicle kept fleeing westbound along Worcester Highway.
The vehicle eventually stopped in the Showell area, where three occupants exited and ran into nearby woods.
A coordinated search followed involving Ocean City Police, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Berlin Police, Maryland State Police, and the MSP Aviation Command helicopter Trooper 4. K-9 units, including K-9 Mackenzie and K-9 Finn, tracked suspects through wooded terrain and nearby properties.
Officers later located the driver, identified as Edward Ray Reedy Jr., 19, hiding on a property along Worcester Highway. Police said he was determined to have been operating the stolen vehicle.
K-9 teams later helped locate a second suspect, identified as 19-year-old Qristian Gavin Durant, who was found hiding beneath a rear deck and taken into custody.
A third suspect, a 17-year-old male from Dover, Delaware, was located around 6:30 a.m. in the same general area where the vehicle initially stopped. Officials said he was also an occupant of the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody.
Investigators said the vehicle had been stolen from a residence in Dover, Delaware, late the previous night.
Reedy and Durant were charged with theft and obstructing and hindering law enforcement. Reedy also faces multiple traffic-related charges. Both were seen by a district court commissioner, with Reedy held without bond and Durant held on a $20,000 bond.
The juvenile was charged and transported to the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center pending extradition proceedings. Authorities also noted he was wanted on an out-of-state warrant from Kemper County, Mississippi, related to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case.
Officials credited the coordinated response of multiple law enforcement agencies and K-9 teams in safely locating all three suspects.
