Teen steals scooter from child in Stafford County but deputy and Walmart step in with replacement

Stafford, VA – A Stafford County deputy turned a theft into an act of kindness after a child’s scooter was stolen by a teenager on Saturday evening.

On September 13 at around 7:22 p.m., Deputy Jenkins responded to a report of larceny on Shasta Place. A juvenile victim told deputies he was playing on his scooter when a teenager approached, asked to trade a bicycle for the scooter, and then forcibly took the scooter after the victim declined. The suspect fled the area and has not been located.

Deputy Jenkins canvassed the neighborhood, reviewed security cameras, and spoke with residents, but no leads were developed. Later, he went to Walmart on Village Parkway and purchased a replacement scooter for the victim. Walmart staff donated a big-wheeled scooter, which Jenkins helped assemble before the child rode it for the first time that night.

The investigation into the scooter theft remains open.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400. Anonymous tips can also be shared through Stafford Crime Solvers at 540-659-2020.
