Toms River, NJ – The Township of Toms River’s popular Summer Concert Series continues Tuesday evening as Garden State Radio takes the stage at Shelter Cove Beach, following one of the biggest nights of the summer that packed the waterfront with music fans on land and hundreds of spectators on boats.
The free concert begins at 7 p.m. at Shelter Cove Beach, where residents and visitors are expected to gather once again for another evening of live music overlooking the Toms River. Fireworks will follow after the concert.
Last week’s performance by Austin City Nights, combined with a fireworks spectacular celebrating Toms River’s 250th anniversary, attracted an estimated crowd of more than 1,500 people. Lawn chairs and blankets filled the beach while boaters anchored throughout the cove to enjoy the concert and fireworks from the water, creating one of the season’s largest turnouts.

Mayor Daniel T. Rodrick and the Toms River Recreation Department launched the annual concert series in June, bringing free live entertainment to Shelter Cove Beach throughout the summer.
Garden State Radio brings high-energy show to Shelter Cove
This week’s featured act, Garden State Radio, has built a reputation as one of New Jersey’s premier party bands, known for energetic performances that keep audiences dancing from the opening song through the encore.
The group performs a wide variety of music spanning today’s pop hits, rock anthems, dance favorites and contemporary country, giving audiences of all ages something familiar to sing along with.
Rather than focusing on a single musical style, Garden State Radio blends current chart-topping songs with crowd favorites from recent decades, creating a fast-paced show designed to appeal to families, couples and groups of friends spending a summer evening along the waterfront.
The band is also known for audience interaction, polished musicianship and a stage production that transforms local concerts into full-scale entertainment events.
For many concertgoers, Garden State Radio has become a favorite act throughout New Jersey’s summer concert circuit because of its ability to read the crowd and maintain high energy throughout the performance.
Opening weeks have drawn large crowds
The Summer Concert Series opened in June with the Amish Outlaws, followed by Austin City Nights on June 30 during a special celebration marking America’s 250th anniversary.
The combination of live country music and fireworks proved to be one of the most successful evenings of the season.
Families arrived early to secure spots along the beach, while dozens of boats anchored throughout Shelter Cove to enjoy the concert from the water before the fireworks illuminated the river after dark.
The event transformed Shelter Cove into a festival atmosphere, with spectators filling nearly every available viewing area.
Township officials estimated attendance exceeded 1,500 people, making it one of the Recreation Department’s largest concerts in recent years.
A waterfront venue unlike any other
One of the unique features of Toms River’s Summer Concert Series is its location.
Unlike many outdoor concerts held in parks or municipal fields, Shelter Cove Beach offers visitors sweeping waterfront views and the opportunity to enjoy live music from either the shoreline or aboard boats anchored in the cove.
Throughout the summer, residents often arrive well before showtime to picnic on the beach, relax in lawn chairs or spend the afternoon on the water before the evening performance begins.
The venue has become a signature gathering place for summer entertainment, offering a relaxed atmosphere that combines live music with sunsets over the river.
The series has continued to grow in popularity as word has spread about the free concerts and the unique waterfront setting.

With Tuesday’s forecast expected to provide another pleasant summer evening, township officials anticipate another strong turnout for Garden State Radio following the success of last week’s celebration.
For residents who missed the June 30 concert or want to experience another evening of waterfront entertainment, Tuesday’s performance offers another opportunity to enjoy live music in one of Ocean County’s most scenic outdoor venues.
